Interlocking Gears from 19th Century Industrial Machinery

This wall art print captures a close-up of 19th-century machinery—massive cast-iron gears built in an era when engineering was bold, exposed, and built to last. Shot in black and white, the image focuses on the shape and wear of the gears themselves—heavy teeth interlocked, surfaces pitted, bolts and flanges still holding after more than a century of use and decay.

The strength of this image is in its weight. You can almost hear the creak of the iron, feel the grit left behind from years of motion. These weren’t decorative objects—they were the muscle behind real industry. What’s left now is part sculpture, part history. Still, stiller than ever, and no less powerful for it.

The lighting is natural and directional—angled to bring out the depth of the gear teeth, the rough texture of the castings, and the shadows buried deep in the machinery’s frame. There’s no context given—no room, no setting—just form and function, stripped down to its essentials. That’s what gives it such impact.

As wall art, this piece fits beautifully in industrial and modern interiors. It brings texture and tone without distraction, and it holds attention without noise. Perfect for studios, offices, or homes with a love for real materials and mechanical beauty.

This is real photography—taken on location at a preserved 19th-century site, printed by hand in my studio, and signed individually. It’s part of the Black and White Photography Collection, where light, form, and subject are all that remain.

The sense of scale is incredible—you can almost feel the weight of those massive interlocking gears just by looking at the print. It’s framed perfectly and the deep shadows really bring out the texture of the cast iron. My only tiny wish is that there were more than 10 prints made, because this one’

The limited edition numbering gives it a real collector's feel, and the depth of the cast iron is captured so well you can almost feel the texture. I've got it framed in my study and it sparks conversation every time.

The close-up detail on this print is incredible—you can almost feel the weight of those cast-iron gears just by looking at them. It’s a limited edition of 10, which makes it feel like a real collector’s piece, and the industrial vibe fits perfectly in my workshop.
