When I travel through Québec’s Gaspé Peninsula, I always feel as though I’ve stepped back into another era. The landscapes stretch wide and unhurried, and tucked into the hillsides and along the coastlines, you often find houses like this—weathered, enduring, and stubbornly standing against both time and Atlantic winds. I wanted to capture this structure in a way that honours its character, so I chose black and white. Stripping away colour lets the textures breathe: the grain of the wood, the darkened windows, the uneven shingles clinging to the roof. There’s a kind of dignity in its age, a quiet reminder that beauty doesn’t have to be polished or pristine—it can be raw, authentic, and unpretentious.

I remember the afternoon I made this photograph; the sea stretched endlessly behind the house, the horizon a soft line that divided sky from water. That vast openness amplified the simplicity of the building. To me, it wasn’t just a house—it was a story.
